UNEATEN was created for the Lone Wolf Solo TTRPG Jam 2022. It was used to test out some ideas I have had for iterating upon my game, GRIMOIRE. This is an early version of UNEATEN and I expect changes to the game as I receive feedback and continue playtesting.

What is UNEATEN?

UNEATEN is a solo roleplaying card game that tasks you with overseeing the survival of four survivors in a zombie apocalypse.

The aim of the game is to escape the city in a mobile base to survive on the road more easily.

In this game, you will send your survivors out to scavenge for supplies to help them survive, craft items, and make progress on their plan to escape the city.

During their supply runs, survivors must overcome zombies, help other survivors in need, and struggle to maintain their spirit.

I bought the game based on the mood chart that looks like a very cool mechanic, but got stuck starting the Supply Run step. I'm getting confused why there's element Modifiers at the top of each rank section of the table and then more modifiers at the suit section? Do you combine the Modifiers together?

And for the first encounter of a run do you need to draw 2 cards? One for the Table page and another for the suit?

 An example that goes through at least 2 encounters of one Supply Run would help me.

Hi Rlollis, thanks for reaching out and your interest in UNEATEN. This game has been a work-in-progress for a while, and I have a long list of playtest notes for its next version (which will definitely include some examples) :) .

As for your questions:

  1. The "element Modifiers" are the bolded text which are the challenges you must overcome with your survivors on the supply run. Those at the top of each rank section is one you always encounter, and the modifiers at each suit section is in addition to the base.
    E.g. Your new card you have drawn is a Ace of Clubs and your previous card was an Ace too. This means you challenges are: Zombies (5/+wound/+danger) and the house fire with the family (5/-/+guilty). The minus symbol is a typo here actually, so treat that as an empty element 'o'.
  2. For the first encounter, only draw 1 card. The encounter will be just the base Ace encounter on the table for the card's rank.
    E.g.  Jack would result in zombie (5/o/+wound).

It's not a very intuitive set of tables that drive these supply runs, and is one of the parts of the game that will be changing in future versions.
